Bob Phillips - Funeral Director
Bob Phillips graduated from Sycamore, Illinois High School in 1958, attended the University of Illinois and Augustana University and graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in 1962. He has been a licensed funeral director since 1963.
Bob worked as a funeral director at Halligan-McCabe Funeral Home in Davenport until purchasing the former Fry-Holland Funeral Home in Vinton in 1972. In 1995, he and his wife Sharon purchased the Fellmet Funeral Home in Keystone and in 2005 they purchased the former Campbell-Russell-Overton Funeral Homes in Vinton and Blairstown.
Bob and his wife Sharon have two children, Mike (Kristy) Phillips, a funeral director with the family firm and Mary Phillips who also works at the funeral home.
Bob and Sharon live in Keystone and are members of St. John Lutheran Church in Keystone. He is a member and past president of the Vinton Lions Club, Vinton Unlimited, the Iowa and National Funeral Directors Associations and the Keystone Turners.
Mike Phillips - Funeral Director
Mike Phillips is the son of Bob & Sharon Phillips and a second generation funeral director at Phillips Funeral Homes in Vinton, Keystone and Blairstown. He is also a partner with Todd Kruse at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama. Mike graduated from Washington High School in Vinton with the class of 1981. He attended the University of Iowa and graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in 1986.
Mike and his wife Kristy live in Vinton and have three sons, Bob, Jack and Will Phillips.
Mike is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton, the Vinton Lions Club, the Vinton Country Club, Tara Hills Country Club, the National and Iowa Funeral Directors Associations, and the Keystone Turners.
He also serves as the Deputy Commander of DMORT (Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team) for federal Region VII, a federal mass fatality identification team composed of a variety of forensic specialists, including pathologists, forensic dentists, x-ray technicians, fingerprint and DNA specialists, medico-legal death investigators and funeral directors. These professionals are deployed to assist local medical examiners and coroners in identifying the victims of a mass fatality incident and returning them to their families. Mike has been deployed throughout the Country for incidents involving terrorism, transportation accidents, hurricanes, tornadoes and floods since 1999.
Mike enjoys golfing, boating and motorcycling.
Matthew Salger - Funeral Director
Matt is a Vinton native and a 1997 graduate of Washington High School.
In 2002 he graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Wheelings, Illinois. He was privileged to receive the first Joan Tomzak-Bak Award for Professionalism selected by the faculty of Worsham College.
Matt and his wife Amy live in Vinton with their two sons, Gavin and Reagan. He is an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he serves on the Board of Elders. He also is a member and Past President of the Vinton Kiwanis Club where he currently serves on their Board of Directors; a member of the Iowa Funeral Directors Association (IFDA) and National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA).
In addition to spending time his family, he enjoys cycling and do-it-yourself projects.
